Its Beginning to Look Like Christmas

All over Tokyo now there are Christmas Illuminations, the name for all the holiday lights, decorations and ornaments on display at popular shopping areas. Tokyo definitely looks full of Christmas spirit and all the places are picture perfect. Here is Keiji at Ebisu Garden Place during their Baccarat Eternal Lights Christmas Illumination. He’s running down [...]

The Teien Art Museum

Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, Meguro Grandma is back in town. I thought she would enjoy seeing the Jewels of Tiffany exhibit on display now at the Teien Art Museum. So the kids and I took her there a few days ago. It was a really lovely exhibit (though I pretty much had to breeze [...]

The Red Brick Warehouse

Minatomirai, Yokohama Here’s Kamen Rider Den-o posing in front of Akarenga in Yokohama (I tried to get Keiji in the shot but he insisted only Den-o wanted to be in the picture). It’s a pretty cool shopping space with a very different atmosphere from other malls. There aren’t really any children’s shops in there though. [...]

Fabric Shopping

So the kids and I went to Yuzawaya in Kamata to pick up material for their costumes. It’s a great shop (good selection and less expensive than Tokyu Hands). You can find all supplies related to sewing, knitting and every type of arts and crafts. It can be a bit confusing at first to find [...]

What’s for Lunch?

Akasaka Fukineki 赤坂ふきねき, Tameikesanno, Minato-ku We met Koichi for lunch and went to Akasaka Fukineki. He introduced hitsumabushi. It looks like unadon (grilled eel over rice) but it’s different because it is eaten in 3 steps so that you can enjoy unagi in 3 different tastes. The first step is to take some rice and [...]

Window Shopping

Hysteric Glamour, Marronnier Gate Building, Ginza We checked out a few shops inside Marronnier Gate. Arisa’s favorite shop was Hysteric Glamour, which does has a small children’s section. Nice choice! But bad for my wallet. I’ll wait for Grandma. Also quite noteworthy is the fancy Tokyu Hands in the building (but it’s called Ginza Hands) [...]

Welcome Joy!

Asakusa, Taito-ku Our first visitor from New York! Joy, one of my very best friends since high school came to visit us in Tokyo. This was her first trip here and also her first time to meet Arisa. Although I selfishly wanted to just spend most of her time here sitting at some cafe/restuarant/bar to [...]

What’s for Lunch?

Gallery ef Cafe, Asakusa Joy, the kids and I enjoyed a relaxing brunch at Gallry ef Cafe before sightseeing around Asakusa. We had the croque madame and pizza with chicken and asparagus, with a soup and salad. Joy and Keiji had some quality getting-to-know-each-other time while Arisa napped peacefully.

Edo-Tokyo Museum

Yokoami, Sumida-ku We met with Chieko and her son, Keanu a couple of weeks ago and went to the Edo-Tokyo Museum. The museum has displays documenting Tokyo when it was still called Edo (from 1603-1868), as well as the early day of Tokyo during the Meiji Restoration (from 1868-1912). This huge building houses a replica [...]
