Sunshine City, Ikebukuro
There’s a place called Namjatown inside the Shunshine City complex in Ikebukuro. I think the best way to describe it is a food theme park. The admission just to enter and not take part in games or
rides is 300 yen for adults. The other passport admission lets you play with the interactive games and stuff but it doesn’t cover the cost of food sold inside. Inside Namjatown there’s one area which is set up to look like a Japanese town in the 1950′s with narrow hallways that look like streets lined with old shops and pubs, and street lined with all gyoza stalls, which are supposed to sell many of the best gyoza from various areas in Japan.
There’s another “town” inside called Ice Cream City which has ice cream shops
selling all kinds of ice treats – gelato, ice crean, sorbets, sundaes, shaved ice, soft cream (which I saw in wasabi flavor). Then another “town” was a little European setting a la Roman Holiday, with the focus on lots of cake and pastry shops. Everything inside Namajtown is in Japanese so difficult to try the games and other interactive props that are set up all over. But still an interesting place to see for it’s example of Japan’s fondness for theme places.
