Kamakura かまくら鎌倉, Kanagawa Prefecture
Back in December we went to visit friends of my mother-in-law in Kanagawa. So on our way there we stopped by Kamakura, known as a mini Kyoto for all the temples and shrines. We did stop by Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, but since all the adults had been there before we decided to just do the mandatory photo with the kids in front of the shrine and skip the long flight of stairs. We mainly stayed along Komachi Dori小町取り just browsing at all the little shops. The highlight for the kids (or maybe just for Keiji) was riding a small and historic train called the Enoshima Electric Railway, more popularly known as Enoden.
Osenbei 煎餅 Shop that sells rice crackers in so many kinds of flavors like curry, umeboshi, shiso, sea urchin.
This is the parent store of Minamoto Kitchoan. Those of you in NYC might recognize this traditional Japanese sweets shop near Rockefeller Center.
I don’t know the name of this crepe shop but I remember seeing this place the first time I went to Kamakura around 1998. I finally tried it for the first time, a simple butter and sugar crepe, but sadly I was slightly disappointed…maybe my expectations were high or I just tried the wrong thing…
Little knick-knacks…
Riding the Enoden train..
