Harajuku 原宿, Shibuya-ku
I think a trip to Harajuku is inevitable when friends or family visit Tokyo. Everyone who comes to Tokyo wants to see the Harajuku teens. But apart from Yoyogi Park there isn’t much I’ve found where I can take the kids. Yoyogi Park is still fun to visit on a Sunday just to see that kids still do get all dressed up and stand around to have their photos taken.
Then of course there is all the (window) shopping along Takeshita Dori and Omotesando. Omotesando used to have a row of lovely little buildings, similar in size to New York brownstones, with ivy crawling up the walls. In these buildings were various shops and little art galleries. Sadly, those quaint little buildings which had so much character are now all gone and have been replaced by the glitzy Omotesando Hills complex. I think I saw one building still standing, which they seem to have left behind on purpose, but to me is just a sad reminder of what they tore down. Well if anything at least for nursing mothers there is a milk room. After strolling around and looking at all the shops, the kids at this point are bored and restless. To make them happy, we stop by Kiddyland, which is really a fun toy store for any age.
